The AI music generation space was getting crowded fast. Synthwave needed a product that was not only technically powerful but also approachable for producers who had never used AI tools. The UX had to make complex ML parameters feel intuitive, and the app needed to handle real-time audio streaming with sub-200ms latency.
We designed a visual interface that maps AI parameters to familiar music production concepts — knobs, faders, and waveforms that producers already understand. The frontend uses Web Audio API for real-time preview and React with server-sent events for streaming generation results. We built a custom design system with 60+ components that scales across web and their planned mobile app.
Synthwave needed to go from napkin sketch to launched product in under 6 months. The founding team had deep AI/ML expertise but no design or frontend engineering capability. We embedded as their product and engineering partner, handling everything from user research and brand identity through to a production React app backed by their Python ML pipeline.
